Beit Haverim-South Metro Jewish Congregation (BH-SMJC) is a Reform congregation affiliated with the UAHC. It is a community consisting of “Jews by birth, Jews by choice, and Jews at heart” living in an overwhelmingly non-Jewish environment that is geographically and culturally distant from the established Portland Jewish community.
As a community, BH-SMJC exists to fill a common need: a desire for families and children to share a sense of belonging that can come only from hands-on ownership within our own created community. BH-SMJC includes families and individuals from the Portland South Metro suburban communities of West Linn, Lake Oswego, Oregon City, Gladstone, Milwaukie, Tualatin, Tigard, Wilsonville, unincorporated Clackamas County and many other cities and towns.
BH-SMJC is an open and spiritually alive Jewish community of choice seeking to strengthen Jewish identity. All are made to feel welcome and appreciated in a unique, fun Jewish experience that succeeds because it is non-dogmatic, non-threatening, and positive.
Friday Shabbat Dinner and Tot-Shabbat occur the first Friday of the month, with Shabbat Services 2nd thru 4th Fridays. Families with children always welcome.
