Congregation Beth Israel (CBI) is a vibrant Reform Jewish community in Portland, serving 850+

About the Role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic, creative Family and Youth Educator to help us connect with
families from preschool to high school and beyond. This is a full-time, in-person position with
some flexibility for remote work. You'll build relationships and create programming that brings
Jewish life to families in meaningful, joyful ways. While youth-oriented, this is a role with direct
multigenerational impact: expect to interact with your students, their parents, their grandparents,
and even the occasional great-grandparent.
Schedule
School Year (Sept–May): Tuesday – Friday and Sunday
Summer: Monday – Friday
Some weekday remote work possible depending on the candidate.
What You’ll Do:
Youth and Teen Engagement (Grades K–12):
Plan and lead youth group events (4th–12th grade)
Host fun Parents’ Night Out programs (K–5)
Communicate clearly with families and staff
Help coordinate and chaperone local, regional, and national teen travel
Religious School and Family Programming:
Create annual family programs for each grade (pre-K–12)
Co-lead Family Camp with clergy and staff
Teach core and elective high school classes
Support school logistics and weekly operations
Shabbat and Holidays:
Help plan and lead High Holiday and Purim programming
Occasionally attend family-focused Shabbat services and events
Teamwork and Communication:
Collaborate with CBI staff, clergy, and committees
Stay connected with families and students
Join weekly Senior Staff and monthly Education Committee meetings
Who You Are
Experienced working with youth and families, especially in Jewish settings
A team player who’s organized, flexible, and reliable
Comfortable with (or eager to learn) tech like Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Shulcloud
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Bonus Points For:
Hebrew language skills (not required, but a plus!)
A playful spirit, a passion for Jewish life, and a love for building community
