Using close readings of Jewish texts as our starting point, the Merchav (which means “Expansiveness”) Group gathers monthly to discuss inclusion, different abilities, and special needs. We aim to become more aware of the narrow places in our Jewish worlds, and to envision ways to broaden access to Jewish community.

The next meeting will take place during Sukkot (10/8, 7:00-8:30 pm), in the Sukkah at Havurah Shalom (825 NW 18th Ave), which will serve as one of our texts. We will also consider the Sukkot tradition of Ushpizin or welcoming in, which has included hosting those on the margins (strangers, hungry, homeless…) and inviting exalted ancestors by name. Please join us!

Merchav is hosted by Havurah Shalom but open to all.
