Day 7: Raphael House

Chanukah is a time that we celebrate light. In this darkest time of year, help us bring light to nonprofits in our community. This December in our 8 Days of Giving campaign, we’re highlighting some of our favorite local community organizations. 100% of the donations collected on this page will go directly to the organization featured! Check back tomorrow to see who’s next!

For more than 40 years, Raphael House of Portland has provided life-saving services to adults and children escaping domestic violence. Since opening their doors in 1977, their confidential emergency shelter has offered a safe haven from abuse, and they proudly help families find the long-term safety, stability, and independence they deserve—while also working to prevent future abuse through education. Together their services reach more than 5,250 survivors and community members each year.

As rates of abuse have spiked during the pandemic, they’ve continually provided 24-hour shelter and hotline assistance, while helping the 475+ survivors in their ongoing supportive programs stay safe, stable, and housed. Community generosity makes this all possible!

“Raphael House was a safe haven for my family when we had nowhere else to go. They helped me learn that I deserve respect and love. Now I teach my children that they have a right to this, too. Coming here was the best thing I’ve ever done for my family. I felt empowered and safe for the first time in my life. The cycle of violence ends with me.”
