In the Shadow of Acropolis–Discover the untold Story of the Holocaust in Greece -30m, 2007-2008
The Sephardic Jews and the Pike Place Market – 30m, 2006
Discussion Leaders: Mark Abolofia and Sol Varon
IN THE SHADOW OF THE ACROPOLIS reveals an unknown two-thousand-year-old culture. The Greek Jews in this documentary represent a branch of Judaism which few have ever heard of — The Romaniotes. Through original testimony by the Ackos Family, this memoir tells the compelling details of how this culture was almost wiped off the map of civilization during World War II, a story you have never heard before. Produced by Laura Zelle and Maxine Davis, in Association with Tolerance Minnesota, IN THE SHADOW OF THE ACROPOLIS uncovers one of the most obscure chapters in the dark history of the Holocaust. Narrated by Jaime-Lyne Sigler (THE SOPRANOS).
THE SEPHARDIC JEWS AND THE PIKE PLACE MARKET: At the turn of the century, Sephardic Jews fled the turmoil of their homeland to start a new life in America. Filled with interviews, archival photos and dozens of Ladino phrases, this slice of Northwest history captures their story as they arrived in Seattle and found work at the Pike Place Market. Screened in 7 Film Festivals throughout the US and broadcast on PBS.
