Held on the first Friday of every month September-May, Ahavath Achim's First Friday Shabbat is the perfect opportunity to connect with our larger community. Our kitchen committee prepares delicious authentic Sephardic recipes for you to enjoy.

Registration is open for our second-to-last community Shabbat Dinner of the season! Our head chef, and VP of the Board, Renee Fererra, re-takes the helm this month to guide us from Rhodes to Portland and beyond. Our Jewish journey is sometimes steady, often perilous, and always meaningful, but we can count on a comforting and lovely meal for Shabbat.

For dinner cuisine in recent months we have traveled to Portugal, Persia and Puerto Rico.  This month at Ahavath Achim we are back to Rhodes . Our menu starts with a green salad with olives and avocado.  First course will also include grape leaves stuffed with rice and spices in a lemon sauce.  Our entree will be an eggplant and chicken stew accompanied by Sephardic peas and fidellos tostados (toasted fidellos).  Dessert will be Sephardic cookies and fresh fruit.  And of course we will have Challah made by our very special Challah maker - Dana Sullivan.
