Maeve Stier is a singer-accordionist based in Portland, OR. Since returning from their Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning revival of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, they have been bringing their eclectic arrangements of jazz, folk, klezmer, and opera to street corners and stages all over the Pacific Northwest

Dressed in a sort of 1930s Paris chic outfit and carrying an accordion, they sat, adjusted the mic, then proceeded to stun the audience, belting out an operatic performance of one of Gilda’s arias from Act I of Verdi’s “Rigoletto.” A stunned audience sat, open-mouthed, during the surprise performance — one doesn’t expect an operatically trained soprano to be behind a squeezebox. If possible, Stier has gotten better at accordion opera accompaniment over the past couple of years, their playing even more delicate and full of color. The ability to shade this beautiful music on such a seemingly incongruous instrument is a testament to their elite musicianship.”
