The New Old Middle East : A Talk with Ms. Col. (Ret.) Miri Eisin

The ongoing multifront war presents fundamental changes to all of the Middle East,

including Israel. What is new, what is old, and what does it mean for the future of the region?

Ms. Col. (Ret.) Miri Eisin is a senior fellow at the International Institute for Counterterrorism (ICT) at Reichman University in Herzliya, Israel. Miri has a deep background in the intelligence, security and diplomacy worlds and is a frequent commentator on these issues in world media. During her 20 years in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), she served in a variety of positions, including the intelligence officer of a regional border brigade, the intel officer of the Israeli airborne division and the assistant to the Director of Military Intelligence. As a full colonel she served as the Deputy Head of the Combat Intelligence Corps. In all her positions she was the first woman to serve in such a capacity.
After retiring from the military, Col. (Ret.) Eisin served as the Israeli government spokesperson during the Second Lebanon War in 2006, and as international press secretary to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
After retiring from official duties, Col. (Ret.) Eisin continues to lecture at Reichman University, Tel Aviv University and worldwide. She serves on numerous boards: She is a founding member of the Deborah Forum, women in national security; Cyberwell to combat online antisemitism; Alma a research center in the Galilee, and is the Chair of the Taub center for social policy studies in Israel.
