Tell It Slant is a monthly reading series for emerging writers of all genres held monthly in Portland at various venues around the city. Curated by local writer, Danielle Frandina, authors are invited to select and read from their collections based on a multitude of specific themes.

January’s Tell It Slant will explore our relationship with the iconic persona of Anne Frank, a young girl liberated by her voice and yet silenced by the regime under which she lived.

Selected writers will read original work centered around the enduring themes of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl such as the immortalizing quality of the written word, writing as a defiant assertion of one’s humanity, and the echoing tones of hope and yearning in a girl who never had the chance to grow to adulthood. Where does Anne Frank's story settle in her readers' psyches as we grow up? What does her legacy mean to us as adults?
