Congregation Neveh Shalom is saddened to share the passing of longtime congregant and friend to many members, Harold Nevis, z"l, who died peacefully of natural causes Wednesday, June 29. Hal lived a full, vigorous, and generous life until just weeks before his death, celebrating his 93rd birthday earlier this month. He will be remembered as an international adventurer, a lover of film and the arts, and a loyal and thoughtful friend.
Hal was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Sarah Nevis, z”l, and his brother Rabbi Yehoshua Zelig Nevis, z”l; he is survived by his sister Judith Zelda Horowitz and his siblings’ many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a “chosen family” of many close friends.
The funeral and burial was held Tuesday, June 30, at Ahavai Shalom Cemetery. Donations in Hal’s memory can be made to Reed College MALS Program.
