"Raising the Roof: Raising Shtetl Architecture from the Dead," a documentary by Yari and Cary Wolinsky, follows the painstaking reconstruction of the elaborate roof and painted ceiling of the eighteenth-century synagogue of Gwoździec, Poland (now Ukraine) by artists Rick and Laura Brown, together with over 300 students and professionals from 16 countries.

Our screening will be followed by a talkback with Thomas Hubka, Professor Emeritus of Architecture at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, author of Resplendent Synagogue: Architecture and Worship in an Eighteenth Century Polish Community, and consultant to the Gwoździec synagogue project.
