Join us at the museum for the opening reception for Auto/Biography, an exhibition that explores the social phenomenon of Jews and their cars.

Looking through the museum’s photograph collections we became aware of how many people are photographed with their automobiles. Behind these images are stories about the Jewish community and their cars. What do they tell us? Cars populate our memories: sitting in the backseat with parents up front, learning to drive, the family vacation and counting license plates, washing the car, the flat tire, learning makes and models, waving from the car window and driving away with “Just Married” scrawled on the car.

Cars and cameras both became part of American life at the end of the 19th century. We have documented our cars with our cameras from the very beginning. The memories create our auto/biographies.

Exhibit runs July 1 – November 8, 2015
