Above & Beyond
A documentary film about the beginning of the Israeli Air Force, produced by Nancy Spielberg, the youngest sister of Steven Spielberg. This is the story of American, foreign and Israeli pilots who flew warplanes to help establish the new state of Israel during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Facing restrictions that precluded assistance from many nations, the first volunteers chose to help in ways that work around US government regulations. With assistance from unanticipated sources, these fighters received training in Czechoslovakia, and flew German Messerschmitt airplanes, among others.
