The Jewish Community Orchestra is proud to present our 48th season finale. This concert is dedicated to our Principal Bassoon and long time Board member, Cara Brauner, who passed away suddenly on April 20th. Her cheerful spirit, deep love of classical music, and dedication to the Jewish Community Orchestra of Portland will be sorely missed.
We'll start the evening with the Overture to "Die Fledermaus" by Johann Strauss. This iconic piece sets the tone for an evening of musical magic, with its lively rhythms that will transport you straight to the halls of Vienna.
Following this, we are honored to perform the world premiere of the Folksong Suite for Strings and Timpani, written by Frederick Naftel. This is an incredible opportunity to witness a brand new composition by a living Jewish composer. Frederick received an award from the prestigious Paul Hamlyn Foundation in May 2020, having been nominated for a prize by Sir James MacMillan.
The season finale culminates with the magnificent Symphony No. 2 in D, op. 73 by Brahms. From the soaring melodies to the intricate harmonies, this piece is a testament to the power and beauty of classical music.
Whether you are a long-time member of our audience or brand new, we are excited to share this concert with you and look forward to seeing you on June 11th!
Our concerts are family friendly and wheelchair/walker friendly.
