As we enter the final two weeks of June, I am quite proud that the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland’s annual campaign has already surpassed last year’s total, as well as increased its number of donors.

On Monday evening, the Federation Governing Board will be approving its allocations to our local and overseas partners for the next fiscal year. This is when your generous campaign contributions are put into action.
Yesterday morning, I flew to Orlando, Florida to attend to some matters following my father’s passing (it is amazing all the things that need to be done – someone should write a short manual), and to share in the simcha of a cousin’s wedding.
Our week began with horrifying news of a massive tornado that struck an area outside Oklahoma City on Monday afternoon.
Tomorrow will mark the 33rd anniversary of a memorable event – the day that Mount St. Helens erupted. It was on May 18, 1980 at 8:32 a.m. PDT that a 5.1 earthquake shook Mount St. Helens.
